fishing, horseback riding, galleries, museums, historical sites, the performing arts,
White Sands National Monument (one of the natural wonders of the world),
and many other points of interest.
 

White Sands is an amazing place.  It's about 275 miles of nothing but soft white "sand."  
It's really gypsum, the mineral used to make drywall.  It's always cool since it can hold moisture, unlike true sand.  If you drive far enough into the dunes (some are 40 feet high), it feels like being on the moon, since there is little or no vegetation.  There's lots to do at White Sands ~
full-moon tours, sunset strolls and plenty of educational information at the museum. 
White Sands and the Valley of Fires can both been seen from space (see rotating photo above).
